My Ideal Classroom
The classroom will provide opportunities for collaborative learning, whilst allowing for independent tasks to be completed without interruption. Students will have access to technology to enable them to become researchers and to develop skills that will be necessary to achieve in the future. The desks will be arranged in small groups, and will face the front of the room, towards the smart board. “Desk arrangements provide the major framework for shaping student-teacher interactions” (Edwards & Watts, 2008, p. 328).
Ideally, the teacher's desk will be at the back of the classroom, enabling them to monitor students unobtrusively (Edwards & Watts, 2008, p. 330). This will enable the teacher to display 'withitness' at all times without the students feeling like they are continually being watched. There will be a quiet area for independent reading or research. Student work will be displayed on the windows and the walls so the students can take pride in their accomplishments. Parents and students will be welcome to come in both before and after school to encourage positive home-school relationships.
